What's in your make-up bag?

I have always been fascinated by what's in other people's make-up bags, so please write and tell me if you have any special revelations about what's in yours. Mine starts with my treasured Betseyville bag, inside are some paints and potions which I will not start my day without.
1. I always start with concealer, mine is an Estee lauder one so tired looking it refused to be photographed.
2. Black sooty eyeliner is next, I have used Rimmel Jet Black soft kajal since high school.
3. I set my eyeliner with the darkest brown eyeshadow from Lancome followed by a black shadow for extra black eye.
4. I used to leave it at this but lately I've been adding a frosted bronzy mushroom shadow on the outer edge of the bottom lash line with a sort brush. I hope this achieves a blended sultry look.
5. Mascara! Lash Architect by L'Oreal in Blackest Black, cake that on.
6. White eyeshadow is what I apply just under my eyebrow on my brow bone as a highlighter.
7. I love dark eyebrows so Shu Uemura eyebrow pencil in Seal Brown is used to draw on the brows I should have been born with.
8. MAC Cubic satin blusher is for me as I have no natural rosiness.
9. Red lips are the most sophisticated way to go. MAC, Lady Danger is fluro red but I can't just use one lipstick, I always blend colours. Lancome, Glamorama is a vibrant pinky red and mixes so well with Lady Danger.
10. I finish with a lip liner to make sure the shape of my lip is as perfect as possible, MAC Boldly bare for day and Illamasqua, Spell for fluro red night-lines.
I hope you are as obsessed with maquillage as I am, otherwise skip this post.

The art of exaggeration

I just finished reading a book about Edith Head, most famous American film costume designer and personality. I love it when someone is so dedicated to a look like she was. 10 points. Oh and gosh, this film, and the costumes are to die for!

Sin City

I watched Sin City the other night, and though I was gripping my knees the whole way through, there was nothing much to take away in terms of story. No ends tied up, just people tied up. No twists. The comic strip drawings were sooooo good, I think I'll stick them in future.

The one above drawn by Frank Miller, I salute you.

Christopher Kane Sample Sale

Ok soooooo, if you are in London you may want to get your arse down to 28 Redchurch Street E2 7DP
on the 1st of December, yes today, Wednesday. I know it's a bit last minute. 12 midday until 8 o'clock in the evening. Mean while, I'm in Melbourne experiencing weird muggy tropical down pours and making bonnets for my friend Honey-hair's lil' baby girl. Peace! xxxx

Gyspy Rose Lee

I'm onto this book now, as an alternative to the Female Chauvinist Pigs book. I have to say her son (Eric Lee Perminger) who wrote this, is one whiney little brat. I'm just waiting for her to die and him to be left nothing in the will. What else would explain his mealy mouth?

Wedding Bells

It was sweetheart Kelly Diamond Doyle's wedding last weekend. We all trouped down the Great Ocean road to some secluded little retreat to witness the nuptials and the best brides maid speech ever.
We all got to pick the bird we wanted BBQed for our dinner, William was hungry and wanted two.

Kelly's little boy Arki was THE COOLEST MC ever and a very dedicated bar man for the evening.
It was a raining quite heavily, which is good luck for the wedded pair but kinda chilly for the party. Luckily I have been stashing an orange 1960s rain coat in my wardrobe for the last 6 years. Finally it came in handy and matches my Dr. Seuss hat too.

Meatball wore a tartan bow-tie and looked dashing and irresistible, especially to a certain Derek..
This is the infamous Miss Ali Hall aka Pam Power (onetime blog special guest writer) and giver of the best and most hilarious wedding speech in history.
J & G no it's not Jilbert and George but it is the cutest pair of outfits.

Female Chauvinist

This is what I'm reading at the moment, a critique of modern feminist culture written by Ariel Levy, and I am very much enjoying it. Well not so much enjoying, its easy to read but I am horrified by some of the stories.
Quote from Hugh Hefner, 1967
"Consider the kind of girl we made popular: the
Playmate of the Month. She is never sophisticated, a girl you cannot really have. She is a young, healthy, simple girl-the girl next door... we are not interested in the difficult woman, the femme fatale who wears elegant underwear, with lace, and she is sad, and somehow mentally filthy. The Playboy girl has no lace , no underwear, she is naked, well washed, with soap and water, and she is happy."RAGE

Le Male

This is my dear friend Tim. He smells like I do, Jean Paul Gaultier, Le Male. Though Tim seems to have taken it one step further. We moved to London together and then when I moved to Melbourne he moved to New York. Tim is a famous hair stylist and I can personally vouch for his amazing powers with his scissors. Sigh, Tim I miss you and your fabulous socialising. xxxx

There's No Business Like Show Business

I watch this 1954 film last night in bed while my man went out for dia de los muertos celebrations. Gosh Hollywood was great in those days. So many girls! So many costumes. The sets. Sigh. I watched this when I was a child and loved it then too. I tried to make showgirl hats out of cardboard, sequins and feathers.

Rose garden

A parcel came from England late last week. A long awaited floral t-shirt from Christoper Kane. I went on a walk into town and wore it with a black jet crucifix on a ribbon around my neck, Dr Martens and a
black mini.

Mother Mary

Sophie AKA Piroska and I went to a party on Friday night. John's house party, the dress code was Forgive me Father for I have sinned. Well Sophie spends weeks crafting costumes and this one involved a molded light up heart and a halo with LED lights inside origami stars. HALO!

Nan Goldin and Cookie Mueller

I rode on the back of his motorcycle down the freeway in the brilliant sunshine to see the Up Close exhibition at Heidi. As much as I liked all the photographic stuff, the Nan Goldin slide show had me by the throat. I love her photos especially when they feature the late Cookie Mueller (the underground actress, think John Waters Pink Flamingos, and writer). That's her directly above and at the top. XX A
